Devaux: wheelchair access with two exclusions

Devaux’s Manoir is at Hameau de Villeneuve, 10110 Bar-sur-Seine. The house’s own contact page states that wheelchair access is provided except to the greenhouse and dovecote. A video inside the Manoir is available, and the estate has parking for cars and coaches. The visitor telephone is +33 3 25 38 63 85; email contact@champagne-devaux.fr.

Devaux lists French, English and Spanish spoken by staff. Its boutique is open Tuesday–Saturday, 10:00–12:30 and 13:30–18:00, checked October 2026. Tasting workshops are appointment products, while the public boutique has a separate reception arrangement. Name the workshop and ask for the Manoir route that excludes the greenhouse and dovecote.

Essoyes: centre and house adapted; studio excluded

Du Côté des Renoir uses two Essoyes sites: the Centre culturel Renoir at 9 place de la Mairie, and the family house and garden on rue de l’Extra. The operator publishes ramps and a lift for wheelchair circulation in the cultural centre and Renoir house. Each reception establishment has an adapted toilet.

The painter’s studio is explicitly inaccessible to people with reduced mobility under an exemption. A ticket covering the “Parcours Renoir” therefore does not mean a wheelchair user can enter every included room. The cultural centre supplies audio devices with large-print and Braille numbers for blind and partially sighted visitors.

Contact accueil@renoir-essoyes.fr or +33 3 25 29 10 94 to arrange the two-site visit. The operator allows around two hours for the centre and family property. Admission is free for disabled visitors on presentation of supporting documentation, checked October 2026; the published full-price Parcours Renoir ticket is €12.

Essoyes railheads and named taxi contacts

The Renoir operator places Troyes station 55 km away, Vendeuvre-sur-Barse 26 km away and Bar-sur-Aube 31 km away. It identifies the Paris-Est–Belfort railway and lists onward taxi contacts. These distances show why a train ticket alone does not complete the journey to place de la Mairie.

The operator lists Taxi Cintrat at 42 rue de la République, Essoyes, on +33 3 25 29 60 40, and VTC Sérénité on +33 6 29 47 64 41. Its list does not identify either as a wheelchair-adapted vehicle service. Ask for the required vehicle, chair capacity and return collection from the named Renoir site before booking.

Other cellar appointments in the Côte des Bar

Drappier receives visitors on rue des Vignes, Urville. Chassenay d’Arce is at 11 rue du Pressoir, Ville-sur-Arce; Gremillet is at Envers de Valeine, Balnot-sur-Laignes. Their guides link the house’s official visit route. No complete wheelchair specification for these three cellar circuits was verified for this guide; request the actual tasting-room entrance and underground route from the estate.

Les Riceys’s cadole walks include published routes of 7 km, 14.5 km and 23 km. Those are vineyard walks, not certified step-free circuits. The Côte des Bar guide links the route descriptions, Les Riceys tourist-office address and named estates. A Devaux Manoir appointment and a Les Riceys trail need separate access decisions.

A Troyes base or a vineyard village

Troyes has a documented tourist-office lift, adapted toilets and wheelchair loan at 16 rue Aristide-Briand. Its regular urban TCAT buses have low floors and ramps, but that city-network statement does not cover the road transfer to Essoyes or Urville. Compare the Troyes accessibility guide with the individual Côte des Bar visit before choosing a base.

Before you go

  • Save your booking confirmation and check its meeting point.
  • Carry the ID and travel documents required for your journey.
  • Wear comfortable shoes for town pavements and cellar floors.
  • Bring a layer for cooler underground spaces.
  • Arrange transport before tasting; never drink and drive.

What a Brit travelling here needs to know

  • Rail and flights: Eurostar links London St Pancras with Paris Gare du Nord; Reims and Épernay trains leave Paris Gare de l’Est. For a flight arrival, compare Paris Charles de Gaulle with your onward SNCF station and date in the transport guide.
  • Documents: for a British-citizen passport, GOV.UK specifies an issue date less than 10 years before arrival and expiry at least 3 months after leaving Schengen. Visa-free tourist visits are limited to 90 days in any 180. Read the current official entry requirements.
  • Money, language and clocks: France uses euros (€) and French; Champagne is 1 hour ahead of the UK. Select English explicitly on a house’s reservation page.
  • Local travel: Reims Centre and Champagne-Ardenne TGV are different stations. Épernay’s station serves the Avenue de Champagne; Hautvillers needs a road transfer. Use the car-free guide for named rail, taxi and tour options.

Entry details checked 23 October 2026. The official GOV.UK page covers other passport types and border procedures.
