Épernay in street numbers

The Avenue de Champagne runs for 1.5 km from the town centre. It is part of the Champagne Hillsides, Houses and Cellars World Heritage property, inscribed in 2015, with Saint-Nicaise Hill in Reims and the historic vineyard slopes around Hautvillers, Aÿ and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ.

Épernay’s tourist office is at 7 avenue de Champagne beside the Hôtel de Ville. The office’s directions put it less than 500 metres from the station forecourt: cross place Mendès-France, pass the theatre, cross rue de Reims and walk through the Hôtel de Ville garden. This route reaches the town end of the avenue.

The avenue walk below uses official visitor addresses. A cellar tour, a tasting room and a house’s private mansion are separate visitor products: Perrier-Jouët’s Cellier at 26 is not its Maison at 11; Leclerc Briant’s avenue boutique is not its cellar reception on chemin de la Chaude Ruelle. Prices below were checked in October 2026 and apply to the named adult product.

The Avenue de Champagne walk, house by house

Start at 7 avenue de Champagne and follow the street numbers east towards Mercier and Comtesse Lafond. The 1.5 km avenue length is the official description of the street, not the length of a station-to-station walk. The map on this page gives orientation; each booked house uses its own reception entrance.

25: Esterlin

25 avenue de Champagne. Esterlin’s avenue address is a tasting and terrace stop. The cooperative was founded in Mancy in 1948 by three families; its house history describes reserve wines from a solera begun in 1972. The public avenue welcome does not establish a cellar tour. Use the house’s own enquiry route for the current tasting list. Official visitor details (checked October 2026).

26: Cellier Belle Epoque

26 avenue de Champagne. Perrier-Jouët’s Art of Chardonnay is a one-hour guided tasting of two cuvées at €95. The house explicitly says it does not include a cellar tour. The estate’s official wine-tourism page also offers a visit to its wine domaine at Fèrebrianges, reached in the house’s vehicle from the avenue. That appointment involves travel outside Épernay; it is not a cellar descent immediately under the terrace. Official visitor details (checked October 2026).

The tourist office lists Joyau de France at €60 with Joyau 2012 and Joyau Rosé 2012. The directory identifies a lift, private parking and cycle parking. Select the named visit in the official booking system; a list of languages spoken does not guarantee every departure in each language. Official visitor details (checked October 2026).

68: Mercier

68 avenue de Champagne. Mercier’s giant barrel belongs to the arrival display; the visit continues by lift to a driverless train through a section of the 18 km cellar network, 30 metres underground. 71–73: Elodie D.

71–73 avenue de Champagne. Elodie D.’s official site identifies the avenue reception alongside the family’s vineyard work. Use its direct visitor enquiry for the tasting and the meeting point. The avenue frontage is a distinct address from any vineyard appointment; no unconfirmed cellar length, duration or admission figure is published here. Official visitor details (checked October 2026).

79: Comtesse Lafond

79 avenue de Champagne. Comtesse Lafond’s official visits page advertises cellar and château experiences with Champagne tastings. Its château marks the eastern extension of the house walk. Book the selected product on the house’s own visit page: the tour’s current price and inclusions are carried by the dated booking, not an assumed general entry ticket. Official visitor details (checked October 2026).

de Castellane: tower visits, cellars temporarily closed

De Castellane’s tower is 66 metres high, with eight floors and 237 steps. The official visit page still says its cellars are temporarily closed to the public (checked October 2026). The Tower visit includes the museum, permanent exhibition and one glass of Brut Croix Rouge: €20 for 60 minutes. The two-Champagne option costs €30 for 75 minutes.

The Heritage Tour costs €60 for 90 minutes, is limited to six guests and uses the entrance at 57 rue de Verdun. It includes the museum, the label room and two cuvées; the collection includes 7,000 drawers preserving 10,000 labels and collars. Reserve directly with visites@castellane.com or +33 3 26 51 19 11. Dogs are not admitted on the tours.

Pol Roger: see the house from outside only

Pol Roger explicitly states that its house is not open for public visits. Its history starts with the first wine sale in January 1849, followed by the move from Aÿ to Épernay in 1851. Do not plan a cellar appointment here or mistake an avenue photograph for permission to enter.

La Table Kobus publishes Pol Roger on its own wine list. The restaurant is at 3 rue du Docteur Rousseau, listed by the tourist office as a gastronomic and traditional-cuisine address. Its wine list establishes a named Épernay tasting possibility; a specific vintage remains dependent on the restaurant’s stock.

Cellar appointments away from the avenue

Leclerc Briant’s cellar visits start at 67 chemin de la Chaude Ruelle, not Le 25bis on the avenue. The official visit route includes La Croisette vineyard, presses, barrel cellars, winery and cellars. Découverte includes two classic-range wines; Immersion includes four wines from the classic and speciality ranges.

Gosset’s visitor domaine is at 12 rue Godart Roger in Épernay. Aÿ is the house’s historical home, not the reception address for the current domaine visit. Jacquinot & Fils is at 36 rue Maurice Cerveaux; its cellar staircase has 106 steps and the official visit includes the vats, cellars, machinery and three wines.

Charles Mignon is at 6–7 rue Irène Joliot-Curie. Gonet Sulcova is at 13 rue Henri Martin, with weekday direct sales and cellar visits by appointment, including weekends by arrangement. These producers lie outside the numbered avenue sequence; their official pages give the booking route and visitor address.

Markets, museum and a named dinner stop

Halle Saint-Thibault has food markets on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Place Fada N’Gourma also has a Wednesday-morning market; place Auban-Moët has the Sunday-morning market. The city additionally lists a fabric market on rue de la Poste on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The market calendar is separate from the Champagne houses’ visit calendars.

La Table Kobus at 3 rue du Docteur Rousseau gives an off-avenue restaurant stop near the centre. The tourist-office restaurant directory also names La Cave à Champagne and Le 17 Lounge Bar. The directory links to table reservations; no meal price or opening evening is inferred from a general restaurant listing.

The Musée du vin de Champagne at Château Perrier displays around 2,000 objects and uses seasonal opening days. Its operator lists Tuesday closure from April to October; from November to March it closes on Mondays and Tuesdays. Its €10 adult admission and first-Sunday free entry provide an alternative to a second Champagne tasting. The museum’s included audioguide has English and accessibility options; its booking page details the selected exhibition.

The tourist office lists Champagne Dream Tour as a half-day pickup from Épernay tourist office, with a Hautvillers viewpoint stop, a family-estate visit and three Champagne tastings before the return. Getting to Épernay from the UK

The rail route from Britain uses Eurostar to Paris Gare du Nord and a separate departure from Paris Gare de l’Est for Épernay. SNCF Connect and Trainline show the selected through itinerary, arrival station and fare. Épernay station is at the town end of the avenue walk.

The driving alternative uses LeShuttle to Calais and the A26 corridor towards Champagne. The transport guide carries the checked crossing and rail figures. On tasting days, book a named driver or a tour; never drink and drive. Épernay tourist office lists Facil-e-Bike and Épernay Bike Hire for cycle-hire enquiries.

Habits de Lumière: 11–13 December 2026

The city announces Habits de Lumière for 11–13 December 2026. Friday and Saturday evenings centre on the Avenue de Champagne; Sunday includes the vintage-vehicle parade. The detailed programme is due in mid-November, so individual house events and performance times are not yet reproduced here.

Public avenue festivities and specified public activities are free; Champagne, meals, paid house visits and pairing workshops are separate purchases. Moët & Chandon currently advertises its own Habits de Lumière dinner at €520 for 4 hours 15 minutes. That private dinner price is not an entry fee for the whole festival. Read the Habits de Lumière guide.

Named day trips from Épernay

Hautvillers has Dom Pérignon’s tomb in Saint-Sindulphe church, 140 wrought-iron signs and the Belvédère Dom Pérignon. The neighbouring Saint-Pierre Abbey is private. Aÿ has Pressoria at 11 boulevard Pierre Cheval and the 19-stop Musardises circuit. These are separate village outings from the Avenue de Champagne.

The Côte des Blancs route connects Chouilly, Cramant, Avize, Oger, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oiry. The official PR116 Boucle d’Avize is 9.1 km with an indicative three-hour walking duration; it links Avize and Cramant, including Parc Vix and the Cramant belvedere.

Reims adds the coronation cathedral and its Saint-Nicaise house visits. For the Montagne de Reims, the named outdoor stop is the 3 km Faux de Verzy loop; the Phare de Verzenay provides the vineyard museum and tower visit. The Champagne map links each town and area guide; a region-wide driving time is not substituted for a named village route.

Épernay FAQ

Which visits have a verified entry price? The named products above include Moët’s Imperial Moment from €48, Mercier’s Founder from €25, Boizel’s Millésime from €40 and de Castellane’s tower from €20 (checked October 2026). Perrier-Jouët’s €95 Art of Chardonnay is a tasting, explicitly without a cellar tour.

Can I visit Pol Roger? The house explicitly says it is not open for public visits. The guide links named visitable houses and Pol Roger’s own regional advice.

Is de Castellane’s cellar open? The official October 2026 page says the cellars are temporarily closed, while tower and heritage visits are available. The 237-step tower is not an accessible substitute for a ground-level tasting.

How far is the station from the walk? The tourist office at 7 avenue de Champagne is less than 500 metres from the station forecourt, according to the office’s directions. The avenue itself is 1.5 km long; a full outing including the eastern château and return to the station is longer.
