Friends’ weekend: named places and tour alternatives
Mumm and Pommery are alternative group tours, not two cellar bookings on the same day. Operator confirmation supplies pickup, winery and lunch addresses. The Avenue pin marks the tourist-office end of the street; the operator sets its tour stopping point.
- Reims station — Cour de la Gare, Reims
- Mumm — smaller-group option — 34 rue du Champ de Mars, Reims
- Pommery — larger-group option — 5 place du Général Gouraud, Reims
- Hautvillers — Saint-Sindulphe church area
- Avenue de Champagne orientation — 7 avenue de Champagne, Épernay
- L’Édito dinner — 80 place Drouet-d’Erlon, Reims
- Notre-Dame Cathedral — Place du Cardinal-Luçon, Reims
Choose the tour that fits six to sixteen friends
À la Française’s shared Champagne tours carry a maximum of eight people. Six, seven or eight friends can therefore search the same departure together, subject to the remaining seats. Its Full day Mumm, family growers & lunch is advertised as eight hours ten minutes, with minivan transport, lunch and seven Champagne glasses, from €230 per person (checked October 2026). Select the Reims departure and enter the whole party before paying.
For nine to sixteen friends, the same operator publishes a different private product: Pommery, family grower and lunch. It recommends a 09:00–18:00 day with collection at accommodation in the Reims area. The large-party itinerary includes Pommery, Hautvillers, the Avenue de Champagne, winery lunch and a family producer. Request the quotation for your actual number; a shared eight-seat listing cannot accommodate sixteen in one departure.
The hour-by-hour framework below uses Friday and Sunday city stops around that Saturday tour. The private operator supplies the agreed collection time and intermediate timetable; 13:00 lunch and 15:00 afternoon visits below are suggested planning markers. Tell À la Française whether the occasion is a birthday or hen weekend when enquiring about its nine-to-sixteen-person product, and include the number of non-drinkers, dietary requirements and mobility needs in the same request.
Friday 16:00 — arrive at Reims Centre and settle in
Reims Centre is the station beside the city centre; Champagne-Ardenne TGV is the separate station at Bezannes. Put the exact station name into SNCF Connect when booking the Paris connection. The Paris-to-Reims train guide explains that choice. For this weekend, reserve the return train after the Sunday cathedral visit and lunch, with its actual departure selected in the planner.
Continental Hôtel at 93 Place Drouet-d’Erlon is a central base beside Square Colbert. Its own access page places it 200 metres from Reims station and gives 1 boulevard du Général Leclerc as the driving approach. The hotel publishes a luggage service, useful for bags before room access or after checkout. Reserve through the Continental property page, then give the hotel one rooming list for the party.
Friday 19:30 — dinner at L’Édito
Book L’Édito at 80 Place Drouet-d’Erlon for the first group dinner. The brasserie’s current Menu Editorial is €35.90 for a starter, main and dessert (checked October 2026). Published choices include house-made jambon de Reims, burratina or gravlax to start, followed by named meat or scallop-pasta options. Use the actual menu and reservation link to agree what your table will order.
L’Édito lists continuous service seven days a week, with Friday and Saturday opening until midnight. A birthday cake is a separate advance order: €7.90 a slice, for at least six people, requested at least seventy-two hours ahead (checked October 2026). Give the restaurant the final headcount when ordering the cake; its six-person minimum makes this a concrete birthday option for the party sizes covered here.

Friday 21:30 — a bar on the same square
L’Apostrophe is at 59 Place Drouet-d’Erlon, so the evening remains within the pedestrian-square district. The brasserie advertises a Champagne and cocktail bar, daily opening from 10:00 to midnight, and a specific groups-and-events enquiry form. Use that form for a reserved group area; its published overall seating capacity does not establish that a particular corner or terrace is available for your evening.
The L’Apostrophe website gives the group contact as Clara on 06 07 07 32 18. Include the time, six-to-sixteen-person headcount and whether you want drinks or another meal. Continental’s own lounge bar at number 93 is an alternative beside the hotel. Neither stop needs a designated driver when everyone is staying in the central Reims hotel district.
Saturday 09:00 — private collection, or the booked small-group departure
The large-party private product recommends collection at Reims-area accommodation around 09:00, with return around 18:00. Give the operator your hotel’s full street address in Reims. For the Mumm small-group day, the regional park’s operator listing gives a 09:20–17:30 Reims window. The confirmation determines which collection point applies; the operator’s office at 51 rue de Talleyrand is not automatically the meeting place for every departure.
À la Française’s FAQ gives its cellar temperature as 11°C throughout the year. Put an extra layer in the day bag even for a summer birthday. The operator says it does not provide bottled water and can adapt lunch for dietary restrictions when told in advance. Send allergies and vegetarian or vegan requests with the group enquiry, so the winery lunch and the vehicle allocation are handled together.
Saturday morning — Pommery for the private large-party route
Pommery’s visitor address is 5 Place du Général Gouraud. The nine-to-sixteen-guest private day describes a guided house visit and two tastings here before moving into the vineyards. Its Pommery admission belongs to the operator’s package: buying separate Pommery tickets on top would duplicate that part of the day. The Pommery guide explains the estate’s chalk cellars, art and other standalone experiences.
For six to eight friends taking the shared Mumm day, the named house is Mumm at 34 rue du Champ de Mars. Mumm describes almost 25km of underground passages beneath Reims. Its Cordon Rouge ribbon dates to 1876, with the ribbon incorporated into the paper label in 1881. The seven wines in the operator’s day belong to its arranged tasting programme; choose the Mumm booking when that is the house your friends want to visit.

Late morning — Hautvillers and the Avenue de Champagne
The large-party programme includes Hautvillers, where the public Saint-Sindulphe church is distinct from the private Saint-Pierre abbey buildings. The village’s Dom Pérignon connection makes this a useful stop between the Reims chalk cellars and Épernay. Use the Hautvillers guide for the church, wrought-iron signs and viewpoints; the driver-guide sets the duration within your private day.
The same private itinerary travels along Épernay’s Avenue de Champagne. Moët’s visitor entrance is at number 18, Boizel at 46 and Mercier at 68. Passing these addresses during a driven or walking orientation is different from a separate booked cellar visit. The Épernay guide sets out the street’s houses; the Saturday package already has its named Reims house, winery lunch and family-producer stop.

Saturday around 13:00 — lunch at the winery
Lunch is included in both the named Mumm small-group day and the private large-party Pommery itinerary. The private programme specifies traditional French food at a local winery with Champagne, then a family-owned producer in the afternoon. The operator chooses the actual venues: the published outline does not name a particular restaurant or producer to reserve independently. Put your agreed dietary arrangements into that operator booking.
The large-party page describes seven glasses across the day, including two tastings at Pommery and three at the afternoon grower. That total does not require every friend to finish every glass. The professional driver handles the road sections between Reims, the vineyards and Épernay; keep the party’s own cars parked for the tasting day. Arrange the hotel pickup and return within the same written quotation.
Saturday around 15:00 — the family-producer visit
The private Pommery itinerary finishes its wine visits with a family-owned producer and three Champagnes. The grower’s name and the afternoon arrival time come from the operator’s arranged programme. Use that tasting to explore the region’s three main grapes: Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay. A grower can bottle several blends, so the three wines may differ by grape, harvest, vineyard or dosage.
Comité Champagne sets the minimum cellar period at fifteen months for non-vintage Champagne and three years for vintage Champagne. Those periods give the afternoon’s small-producer wines the same appellation framework as the morning’s larger house. The Champagne explainer sets out ageing and dosage terminology; the driver-guide supplies the names of the bottles poured on your booked day.
Saturday 18:00–20:00 — return to Reims and a relaxed dinner
After the private day’s recommended 18:00 return, leave a gap before a 20:00 dinner target in central Reims. Café de la Paix at 9 rue Buirette is another group-meal option: its own website describes large tables, seafood platters and brasserie dishes, including a tiramisu made with biscuits roses. It publishes dinner service from 19:00 to 21:30. Request the group’s dinner time when reserving Café de la Paix.
Café de la Paix lists dinner closures on 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January. For a winter friends’ weekend touching those dates, L’Édito and L’Apostrophe have separate calendars and booking teams, so send the date before choosing the evening address. For the wider festive programme, the Christmas itinerary connects the Reims market with Épernay’s Habits de Lumière; it is a different weekend structure.
Sunday 10:00 — Notre-Dame before the train home
Use Sunday morning for Notre-Dame at Place du Cardinal-Luçon. Its western façade has the Smiling Angel; Marc Chagall’s windows were installed in the axial chapel in 1974. The cathedral, former Saint-Remi Abbey and Palais du Tau entered the World Heritage List in 1991. The Palais du Tau remains closed for renovation, so this city stop does not rely on a palace-interior ticket.
The cathedral tower route is a separate reservation involving 249 steps. Keep the floor-level cathedral visit as the common group plan, then use the Reims sights guide for anyone extending their stay. Maison Fossier’s shop at 25 cours Jean-Baptiste Langlet supplies biscuits roses, croquignoles and bouchons au marc as an alternative souvenir to another bottle. Shop and factory tours use different addresses.

Rooms and the costs you can price now
Continental’s retrieved Booking.com listing includes double or twin options and a quadruple room. Those room types help friends who want separate beds, but availability must be selected for the actual weekend. Best Western Premier Hôtel de la Paix at 9 rue Buirette is a second central option, with its own restaurant and bar. Compare the La Paix property page and ask for the exact bed arrangement before allocating the rooms.
For the Mumm shared option, €230 plus L’Édito’s €35.90 menu and a €7.90 birthday-cake slice gives a verified-component subtotal of €273.80 per person (checked October 2026). It excludes transport to France, two hotel nights, other meals, extra drinks and any group-specific conditions. The larger private day needs its own quote; no complete weekend price is stated without that quotation and dated room prices.
