Pressoria, Aÿ-Champagne
Address: 11 boulevard Pierre Cheval, Aÿ-Champagne, formerly boulevard Pasteur. Pressoria occupies a former press-house setting and explains Champagne through an independent sensory route. It offers a different introduction from following a guide through one producer’s cellars: the subject is the region’s environment, people and production. The permanent journey is self-paced, so you can spend longer on the parts that interest you.
Price checked October 2026: the adult sensory journey and tasting is €18 (about £15). It includes 2 champagnes or 2 grape juices, which makes the same visit possible for someone who is not drinking alcohol. The French tariff gives children aged 6–17 at €9 (about £8), while the English tariff shows €9.50 (about £8); that discrepancy is not resolved here, so confirm a child’s total in the booking basket. Under-6 entry is free. Do not apply the adult price to a special workshop or group programme.
Opening: April–October, 09:30–18:30 except Thursday; November–March, 10:00–18:00 except Thursday. The operator advises starting the full visit by 16:30 in summer and 16:00 in winter. It lists closure on 1 January, 24–25 December and the second half of January. Late entry without tasting is a different reduced offer; do not book it expecting the full standard experience.
Time and booking: allow roughly 2 hours as an editorial planning allowance, including the tasting; this is not a guaranteed operator duration. Use Pressoria’s own offers and booking information. Its practical page describes Aÿ station as a 15-minute walk. Check the return train separately. The Aÿ guide places it within a village day instead of treating it as an Épernay city-centre attraction.
Cité du Champagne Collet: confirm the current offer
Current visitor address: Champagne Collet lists its boutique at 14 boulevard Pierre Cheval, Aÿ. The Cité du Champagne name appears in older descriptions of the site’s wine heritage and interpretation. Its present official experiences page is the important booking source: it advertises tastings, while the tours section says “Coming soon”. A shop opening is not confirmation that the former museum or cellar route can be visited independently.
Hours checked October 2026: from 28 September 2026 to 19 March 2027 the boutique is listed Monday–Friday 10:00–12:30 and 13:30–17:30, with Saturday opening 13:30–17:30. These are boutique hours. They should not be copied into an itinerary as museum admission times. Minors must be accompanied and cannot consume alcohol; the operator also lists facilities for guests with reduced mobility at the boutique.
Price, duration and booking: a current public museum-tour price and duration could not be confirmed on the official page. They are therefore not quoted. Contact hospitality@champagne-collet.com or +33 3 26 55 98 88 about the exact experience before travelling. The official experiences page is the route to the currently offered tastings. Ask whether any non-alcoholic alternative is included instead of assuming the Pressoria arrangement applies here too.
For a rainy day, Pressoria is the confirmed self-paced museum-style choice nearby. Collet may be suitable for a separate booked tasting, but leave the historic Cité route out of a fixed timetable until the operator confirms it. This distinction avoids paying for transport to an experience remembered from an old guide but no longer advertised in that form.
Château Perrier: wine and regional archaeology
Address: 13 avenue de Champagne, Épernay. The Musée du Vin de Champagne et d’Archéologie Régionale occupies Château Perrier and combines the wine story with regional archaeology. The city describes about 2,000 displayed objects. It is a useful choice for a group whose interests differ: the visit is not built around consuming champagne, and the building and its collections give context to the avenue outside.
Price checked October 2026: full adult admission is €10 (about £9). The museum lists reduced tickets at €6.50 (about £6) and €4.50 (about £4) subject to eligibility, free entry for under-13s and free entry for everyone on the first Sunday of the month. Check the stated conditions instead of choosing a reduced fare without evidence. An audioguide is included; the official access page lists several languages and accessible formats.
Opening: April–October 11:00–19:00, closed Tuesday. November–March: Wednesday–Friday 13:30–18:00, Saturday–Sunday 10:00–18:00, closed Monday and Tuesday. Annual closures are 1 January, 1 May and 25 December. Last admission is 1 hour before closing and the rooms begin clearing 30 minutes before closing. A late entry consequently gives less time than the closing hour alone suggests.
Time and booking: the museum’s practical page gives an average visit of 1½–3 hours. Use the official museum site for tickets and current temporary programmes. Guided activities may have their own times and booking conditions. The park is separately accessible without an admission charge, but it is an outdoor option and does not replace the museum in heavy rain. Combine the visit with the Épernay avenue walk.
Phare de Verzenay
Address: Musée de la vigne, rue du Phare, Verzenay. The lighthouse is an inland vineyard landmark, with a museum about the Champagne vineyards and a viewing climb. The visitor can choose the museum alone or combine it with the lookout. This is useful when the weather is poor: an indoor exhibition and a view over the vines are different activities, and visibility will affect how much the climb adds.
Price checked October 2026: adult museum plus lighthouse €9 (about £8); museum alone €8 (about £7); lighthouse alone €3 (about £3). The corresponding 6–16 prices are €5 (about £4), €4 (about £3) and €2 (about £2), with under-6s free. These published admission choices cover access; ask separately about a tasting. Ask about any tasting separately and check whether it is appropriate for the members of your group.
Opening: October–March, Tuesday–Sunday 10:30–17:00; April–September, daily 10:00–18:30. The operator lists a January closure with reopening on the first February weekend. Confirm the current date and any weather-related restriction directly before a winter journey. The site is outside the city centres, so include the outward and return transport in a wet-weather plan instead of counting only exhibition time.
Time and booking: Épernay Tourisme lists an average visit of 90 minutes. Use the lighthouse’s official practical page or call +33 3 26 07 87 87; groups are quoted on request. If steps or a climb are a concern, ask about the museum route separately. The vineyard landscape makes it a natural part of the Montagne de Reims area, with a non-drinking driver or booked transport.
Musée de la Reddition, Reims
Address: 12 rue Franklin Roosevelt, Reims. The museum preserves the room associated with the signing of Germany’s unconditional surrender at 02:41 on 7 May 1945. It is a Second World War visit, distinct from the cathedral’s 1914 destruction and the First World War shelter story. Keeping those periods separate makes it easier to understand what the surviving room represents.
The city museum reopened on 7 May 2026 after work on the visitor presentation. Its displays put the signing and the Allied headquarters in context, with the historic room as the central stop. This is a strong option for a visitor interested in history instead of wine. It is also a serious subject; choose the pace and interpretation appropriate to children in the group instead of presenting every indoor attraction as interchangeable entertainment.
Price and hours checked October 2026: the full adult tariff is €5.50 (about £5). The published opening is 10:00–18:00, closed Tuesday and on 1 January, 1 May, 1 November and 25 December. Eligibility-based concessions should be checked on the city museums’ tariff page. Temporary closures can override the weekly pattern, so look at current notices as well as the individual museum page.
Time and booking: allow approximately 1 hour as an editorial planning estimate, longer if you read all the interpretation; no guaranteed visit duration is asserted. Use the city museum’s official page for admission and group arrangements. Pair it with the war-history guide only if you allow time to distinguish its two periods clearly.
Palais du Tau: currently closed
Address: 2 place du Cardinal Luçon, Reims, beside the cathedral. The Palais du Tau is closed to the public for works. As checked in October 2026, the operator’s practical page says to return in 2027. It does not provide a confirmed public reopening day on that page. Earlier references to a winter 2026/2027 project timetable should not be turned into a promise that the museum will be open for a particular holiday.
The former archiepiscopal palace is connected with the cathedral and the coronations of the French kings. The renovation includes a new presentation of that history, but the future route is not an attraction available to book today. Do not use an old entry price, old guided-tour length or a past combined ticket as current practical information.
Price, time and booking: there is no current public palace visit to price or schedule during the closure. Only the temporary bookshop is listed as open, Tuesday–Sunday 09:30–12:30 and 14:00–17:30, except the published holidays. A shop visit is optional and does not provide access to the palace collection. Recheck the operator’s practical information before a future trip.
The cathedral towers are a separate bookable attraction suggested by the operator during the works. They involve a climb and should not be substituted automatically for a step-free indoor museum or a rainy-day shelter. For a confirmed museum in Reims, choose the Reddition instead, or use the Reims hub to plan the cathedral ground visit under its own opening arrangements.
Choose one main indoor stop
For a first introduction to how the region makes wine, choose Pressoria; for archaeology and the avenue’s architecture, choose Château Perrier. For vineyard interpretation with a possible view, choose Verzenay. For wartime history without a wine focus, choose the Reddition. Collet needs a confirmed current experience, and the Palais du Tau remains a future option until reopening is announced.
A rainy day still requires transfers between stations, hotels and entrances. Book one main activity, leave a proper lunch gap and keep an alternative that is open on the same weekday. Thursday is a closure day for Pressoria, Tuesday for Château Perrier in summer and the Reddition, while Château Perrier also closes Monday in winter. A museum closed on your travel day cannot serve as the fallback for a cancelled vineyard walk.
