A family estate in Cramant

P. Lancelot-Royer’s official site dates the house to 1960, founded by Pierre Lancelot and Françoise Royer. It describes a family succession through Sylvie and Michel to Edouard and Marie. This is a Cramant visit centred on Chardonnay and blanc de blancs, useful for a Côte des Blancs day when you want a family-property experience instead of a large-house city tour.

The regional tourist-office description identifies a traditional chalk cellar behind the house and production undertaken on site. Ask the host which stages are visible during your booked route. A press, vat room and cellar illustrate different parts of the production sequence; visiting those spaces does not mean pressing or disgorgement will be taking place on the day. Harvest work has its own seasonal calendar.

Three clearly different bookings

The official French page lists a 30-minute Blanc de Blancs tasting at €10 (about £9), with two Chardonnay cuvées and a maximum of 12 people. This is the shortest option and should be booked as a tasting instead of a full property tour. It can suit a day with limited time, provided the appointment and onward transport are agreed before arrival.

The discovery visit is €20 (about £17) for 1 hour with two blanc de blancs champagnes. The fuller property visit is €30 (about £26) for 1½ hours with three champagnes and a route describing vines, facilities and the traditional chalk cellar. The page lists French and English, reservations only and no pets. Choose the experience by the route and time you want, then confirm the language and total for your party.

Booking details and source differences

The official French visit page gives +33 3 26 57 51 41 for telephone reservations. The English version shows a different phone number, so use the French booking page or its reservation link instead of copying the inconsistent English contact. The postal visitor address is 540 rue du Général de Gaulle, Cramant. The discrepancy is recorded here because reliable contact matters more than presenting two conflicting numbers as equally certain.

A tourism listing has broader visit-duration and pet information that differs from the operator’s current experience page. For these bookable products, follow the operator’s reservation terms. In particular, do not bring a pet on the assumption that an older directory permits it. Ask about children, non-drinkers and any access need before booking; a family estate does not imply identical facilities for every part of its route.

Getting here and choosing a base

Visitor address: 540 rue du Général de Gaulle, Cramant. Use that address and your confirmation for the entrance; the regional map groups houses by area and is not an entrance survey. Épernay is the practical named base used for the Plan box on this page. The Épernay guide helps choose accommodation and the outward rail connection before arranging the local leg.

Cramant should be treated as its own appointment location. Check the door-to-door route for the exact day and arrange the return as well as the outward trip. A railway station serving a nearby town does not remove the need for a local transfer. For a taxi transfer, give the driver the house name and street address as well as the village. Agree the collection point and leave time after the advertised experience ends; ask whether the return booking includes waiting time and how a delay will be handled.

The surrounding area guide supplies the context for a slower day. Leave a meal gap before or after the appointment and avoid arranging successive tastings whose travel windows overlap. The driver should remain alcohol-free. If you prefer an organised day, compare the itinerary and actual named stops before assuming a general Champagne tour includes P. Lancelot-Royer.

Questions worth asking at the tasting

Ask the host to identify each cuvée, its grape composition and whether it is non-vintage or a millésime. Then ask how the dosage and reserve wines contribute to the finished style. These are useful questions even for a first visitor: the answer connects the label with the producer’s decisions. The Champagne glossary provides short definitions to read beforehand, so the appointment can focus on this house’s actual wines.

For each wine, record the grape blend, village origin and vintage where stated. Compare those details with the preceding glass before drawing a conclusion about flavour. Ask which production choices the host considers most relevant to the difference. A release can differ in blend, harvest year, cellar time and sweetness at once. If the booking includes one wine, ask how it relates to the rest of the range. A second pour can carry a separate charge; agree that charge before ordering, particularly when several people want to try a different wine. Photographs of a range are not a list of guaranteed tasting inclusions.

Ask about bottle purchases at the end, including the exact vintage, size and whether the shop has the release tasted. No saving against Britain is assumed. The buying guide explains matching like-for-like prices, protecting glass in luggage and checking the delivered total when shipping. Buying a bottle is a separate decision from the cost of the visit.

Before you confirm

Check the live booking conditions for the date, number of adults and any accompanying children. Ask whether non-drinkers can attend, what they pay and whether an alcohol-free drink is included. Do not assume that an adult tour price covers every guest category. For access needs, specify whether you need a step-free entrance, accessible toilet, seat during commentary or assistance on the route. Obtain a response for the selected experience before paying. A facilities description may apply only to reception or the tasting room.

Keep the reservation email with the address, arrival time, language and cancellation terms. A quoted duration covers the advertised experience, while your day also needs time to arrive, use facilities and leave without rushing. If an enquiry has been sent but no acceptance received, the visit is not reserved. Prices here were checked in October 2026 and remain planning information until the operator confirms your booking.

What a Brit travelling here needs to know

  • Rail and flights: Eurostar links London St Pancras with Paris Gare du Nord; Reims and Épernay trains leave Paris Gare de l’Est. For a flight arrival, compare Paris Charles de Gaulle with your onward SNCF station and date in the transport guide.
  • Documents: for a British-citizen passport, GOV.UK specifies an issue date less than 10 years before arrival and expiry at least 3 months after leaving Schengen. Visa-free tourist visits are limited to 90 days in any 180. Read the current official entry requirements.
  • Money, language and clocks: France uses euros (€) and French; Champagne is 1 hour ahead of the UK. Select English explicitly on a house’s reservation page.
  • Local travel: Reims Centre and Champagne-Ardenne TGV are different stations. Épernay’s station serves the Avenue de Champagne; Hautvillers needs a road transfer. Use the car-free guide for named rail, taxi and tour options.

Entry details checked 23 October 2026. The official GOV.UK page covers other passport types and border procedures.
