Before you go

A mixed Champagne trip can combine one carefully chosen house appointment with museums, architecture, forest time and meals. Begin with the people travelling: children’s ages, interest in underground spaces, access needs and whether anyone wants a non-alcoholic option. Then choose the published visit format that accommodates that party.

The family and admission examples below were checked against official house pages in October 2026. An adult tasting, a family workshop and a non-drinker ticket can be separate options. Book the exact programme, include everyone in the reservation and keep the operator’s reply with the day’s plan.

Can children go on cellar visits?

Policies vary by house and programme. Taittinger describes Instant Famille as particularly suited to children aged 6–12; that is its intended audience, rather than a universal admission minimum. The ticket page exposes a child category for ages 0–17. The published format lasts 70 minutes, with adult tickets at €40 (about £34) and child tickets at €25 (about £21) (checked October 2026).

Ruinart’s official Crayères visit lists children aged 7–17 at €50 (about £43) and free admission for under-7s, alongside the €90 (about £77) adult visit (checked October 2026). That page gives a two-hour format and French or English visits. Use the categories for that named programme; a different tasting or private experience can have different terms.

Mercier welcomes accompanied children and requires a reservation for every minor. Under-10s use the free Child category; ages 10–17 use a Teen ticket. Its official page states that a non-alcoholic alternative is offered to children and teenagers. Read the house’s own page when selecting the party, including children who travel without an adult tasting ticket.

For another producer, request its published age and access rules directly. No minimum age is invented here where an official policy was not verified. Ask about the route, stairs, prams and the activity offered to a child during the adult tasting. Those details are more useful to a family than a general label such as “suitable for everyone”.

Visits that work for families

Taittinger’s family format gives adults two cuvées while children take part in an artistic workshop. Choose Instant Famille by name. The verified child activity is the workshop; no grape-juice tasting is promised for this programme. Reserve the language and time that fit your group.

Mercier uses an underground visitor train, giving the visit a transport element as well as the cellar story. Its public visit page lists French and English. The train does not settle every access question: use the house’s instructions for the complete route from reception to the tasting and ask about your party’s specific needs.

In Châlons-en-Champagne, Joseph Perrier’s official visit programme describes a dedicated introduction for ages 7–17 ending with single-varietal grape juice. It is an additional external option, with its own booking arrangements. The language and precise ticket category belong in the reservation.

Build the day around a manageable appointment and leave room to eat, reach the next place and change pace. A child interested in the train or workshop may still need a break afterwards. Put the meeting point and the full party on one shared plan, so another adult can take over navigation or meal arrangements.

Alcohol-free tastings and non-drinking adults

Mercier explicitly offers a preferential-rate option for adults who do not drink alcohol and a non-alcoholic drink, arranged by contacting the house. No adult non-drinker price was verified for this guide. Ask for the current option before purchasing a standard adult ticket, then keep the response with the booking.

A non-alcoholic alternative and grape juice are different descriptions. The house pages cited here support Mercier’s non-alcoholic alternative and Joseph Perrier’s specified grape juice. They do not establish that every house serves the same drink. Tell a producer what you need and ask what its named programme includes.

Non-drinking visitors can also choose a visit for the architecture, wine-making explanation or underground route. Agree the ticket type and the tasting-room arrangements in advance. A museum or town walk can provide a separate cultural visit for someone who prefers to meet the group again at lunch.

Outdoors: forest, lighthouse and village walks

The Montagne de Reims guide links the Faux de Verzy and the vineyard villages. ONF describes a 3 km discovery walk with an indicative duration of 1 hour 30. Treat the published trail as its own outing, allow time for pauses and follow the forest’s marked-route instructions.

The Phare de Verzenay combines its vineyard setting with a visitor attraction. The regional guide records a 101-step climb, so decide whether the tower fits your party before adding it to the day. Opening information and the actual admission categories come from the attraction’s own visitor page. A photo of the lighthouse is not evidence that every part of its route is accessible.

For a shorter outdoor interval, use the public streets of a town or a signed village route. Vineyard land and producer courtyards have their own access arrangements. Keep a walking plan distinct from a booked house visit, and choose a return route you can manage with your luggage, footwear and the day’s weather.

Museums and rainy days

The museums and visitor-centres guide gives indoor alternatives across the region. Château Perrier in Épernay houses the Champagne and regional archaeology museum. Pressoria in Aÿ offers a different visitor-centre format. Consult each place’s current programme, child categories and access information before making it the wet-weather booking.

Reims adds the cathedral, Saint-Remi and the city’s museum collections to a house-based break. Choose an attraction that interests the non-drinking members of the group as well as the adults booking tastings. Read its opening information for the actual day; church use, museum closures and timed visits have separate calendars.

Keep a ready alternative in the same base town. Record the address, opening page and reservation requirement beside the original plan. That gives the group a practical choice when weather changes, without assuming that a different venue will admit everyone immediately.

A theme-park day in the Côte des Bar

Nigloland is one of the sights linked from the Côte des Bar guide. The operator gives its 2026 season as 4 April–11 November (checked October 2026). This is the season span: use the date-specific calendar to see which days are open.

Place a theme-park outing on its own schedule, alongside the route to your accommodation and any booked producer appointment. Ride restrictions, ticket offers and services come from the park’s current pages. No unverified park tariff or height limit is quoted here. A family travelling mainly by train should arrange the onward journey to this countryside outing before buying tickets.

Where to stay with children

Use the named hotel rows and the destination shortlists to compare addresses. For a rail-based visit, Novotel Suites Reims Centre’s listing gives a three-minute walk from Reims station and limited paid on-site parking. Enter the actual party and choose the room configuration shown on the provider’s page.

For each option, record the children’s ages, sleeping arrangements, breakfast terms and the journey to the main appointment. Ask the property about any equipment you need. A booking for a room, a parking space and a house visit are separate arrangements, so keep their instructions together.

Find hotels in Reims and Find hotels in Épernay open accommodation searches. Add every child’s age and the number of rooms before comparing the returned offers. The Reims access guide and Épernay access guide help frame questions about the route through each town; house-specific access comes from the house itself.

For a family booking, write down the ages on the day of travel, the named ticket categories and the language of the session. Keep a copy of the confirmation with the meeting point and arrival instructions. Include every accompanying adult and child in the reservation, even when a child category is free. Before paying for a room, compare its stated occupancy with the whole party rather than assuming that a photograph of a sofa means an extra bed is included. These are questions for the particular provider and offer.

FAQ

Can children visit Champagne cellars?

Several named programmes publish child categories, including Taittinger, Mercier and Ruinart. The age bands, activities and access arrangements differ. Reserve the exact format for your party and ask the house about any unconfirmed requirement.

Can a non-drinker enjoy the trip?

A trip can combine a chosen house visit with museums, architecture, meals and outdoor time. Mercier publishes an adult non-drinker option by direct contact. Ask other houses about their own ticket and drink arrangements before booking.

Do young children need a reservation?

Follow the chosen provider’s rules. Mercier explicitly requires every minor to be reserved, including its free under-10 Child category. Enter all members of the party when arranging a family visit.

What works on a rainy day?

Choose from the linked museums and visitor centres using their own current opening and admission information. Keep the alternative near your base and allow for any required reservation. A weather change does not reserve a replacement visit.

Is Nigloland open all year?

The published 2026 season runs from 4 April to 11 November. Consult its daily calendar for actual opening dates; the season span does not mean every date is open.
